Point Loma

The area’s best known landmark is the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, located at the southernmost point of the peninsula.

Welcome to Point Loma

Urban coastal oasis with a storied past

From Sunset Cliffs, look out at the ocean and watch the waves crash during the last glimpse of light. From the end of the peninsula, enjoy sweeping views of the bay and Downtown San Diego. The views from Point Loma are unparalleled, but the city itself is also something to see. It’s where California began, and it continues to thrive to this day.

The architecture of Point Loma is varied and beautiful. Spanish and Mediterranean-style residences have long found a place here, while the sleek modern architecture has burst onto the scene in the last few decades. There is everything from cozy bungalows to sprawling estates with private docks because Point Loma has something for everyone.

People & Lifestyle

Point Loma residents live the quintessential California lifestyle, full of hiking, seafood, and beaches. The bayside of the peninsula gives residents access to the marina and watersports, the ocean edge gives them beach days full of sunbathing and swimming, and the end of the peninsula is full of history and beautiful hikes.

It’s a friendly, casual town where residents enjoy a laid-back community feel. The perfect weather and abundant nature draw everyone outside throughout the year. Still, Point Loma is close enough to downtown and other San Diego neighborhoods that it’s easy to escape to more bustling commercial centers.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Point Loma has some of the best seafood in California, which is quite the claim because there’s a lot of competition. You can buy fish off a boat in the marina or eat shellfish while watching waves crash nearby.

Point Loma Marina is a great stop whether you have a boat there or not. It has lots of restaurants and shops to pick from, and a gorgeous view of the water. A short drive from the marina will bring you to Liberty Station. Here you can take in the art and history of the area, do some shopping, and take a stroll along the waterfront park.

Point Loma Seafoods claims to be “the freshest thing in town,” and they are absolutely justified because their fresh catch is brought in daily by the owners. Tom Ham’s Lighthouse serves seafood with an epic view from the base of a working lighthouse. You’ll want to become a regular at this unique location.

Things to Do

The distinct areas of the peninsula provide many incredible opportunities for recreation, so take your pick of activity level and atmosphere and go have a great time.

It doesn’t get better than singing along to some of your favorite artists while the salt air caresses your face, which is why Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay is one of the best live music locations in San Diego.

Humphrey’s is a great place to eat, drink, and dance, thanks to its award-winning menu and nightclub vibe. Cabrillo National Monument is a historic landmark that boasts tide pools, hiking trails, and vibrant wildflowers. At the end of the day, catch the last rays of the day at the iconic Sunset Cliffs.
